ROSANKY, TX — Alliance Regional Water Authority (ARWA) realized an important milestone in the completion of the Carrizo-Wilcox Water Project when it broke ground on a new Water Treatment Facility, which will provide water to the Cities of Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, and the Canyon Regional Water Authority. Through the partnership with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority the plant will also provide water to the cities of New Braunfels and Lockhart as well as the Goforth Special Utility District.
Located east of Lockhart in Rosanky, Texas, the Water Treatment Facility is a pivotal step toward bringing clean drinking water to the fast-growing region. When completed, the facility will treat over 19 million gallons of water per day serving 225,000 residents in Central Texas. The 568-acre site will also contain 11 pump stations and an above ground storage tank.
Chairman of the ARWA Board, Chris Betz, gave remarks on the progress the group has made, noting that many of the members in attendance participated in the first meetings dating back to 2006.
“This treatment facility is key to providing high-quality water to this growing region,“ said Jane Hughson, Mayor of the City of San Marcos. “We are laying the foundation for water infrastructure that will benefit the region and the City of San Marcos for many years to come.”
Alliance Water proposed the Carrizo-Water Supply Project in 2015 to address the rising need for a sustainable, long-term source of water in this rapidly growing area.
“We are well on our way to having a fully-operational transmission system for transporting water to our neighbors and communities. With an increase in population and need for more diverse water supplies, it is vital to plan ahead and work together in truly regional approaches,” said Executive Director Graham Moore.
With 90 percent of the design complete, the Carrizo Water Project — which includes 85 miles of pipeline, four wells, storage tanks, pump stations, and a treatment facility — is expected to be fully operational by late 2023.
